Mouth Cancer Action Month is the biggest charity campaign for mouth cancer awareness. Started by the Oral Health Foundation, its aim is to increase awareness and education around mouth cancer.
Over the past 12 months, 8,337 people in the UK were given the life-changing news that they have mouth cancer. This is more than cervical cancer and testicular cancer combined.
Thousands of people including dentists, hygienists, nurses and the public spread the word about mouth cancer and share the important message of being Mouthaware.
This year the campaign wants to achieve more in raising awareness with the ‘Blue Lip Selfie’ campaign #BlueLipSelfie. The more the general public and clinicians know and understand the better chance we have of fighting mouth cancer.
How can your practice take part in Mouth Cancer Action Month?
There are a range of things you can do this November to take part in and promote Mouth Cancer Action Month, including:
Spreading the word using social media
Promote the campaign using your social media channels with the hashtag #BlueLipSelfie. Blue Lip Selfie encourages everyone to wear blue lips as a visible sign of their support for mouth cancer.
Making patients aware with waiting room TV
Envisage Dental TV is a great way of educating patients about the latest health campaigns. We have videos in our library of media to make patients aware of the following:
- Knowing how to spot mouth cancer early and regularly checking for unusual changes in the mouth.
- Understanding what is likely to cause mouth cancer and reducing your risk.
- Acting quickly when you see something out of the ordinary by visiting your dentist.
Visit us at the Northern Dental Summit & Exhibition
We are exhibiting at the Northern Dental Summit & Exhibition in Manchester on the 22nd & 23rd November. Come and visit us on stand D30 to find out more about how you can use waiting room TV to educate your patients on the latest dental health campaigns.
We will also be giving away coffee in reusable coffee cups at the event. We will be asking for a suggested donation of £2.00 which we will be donating to the Oral Health Foundation.
