You will be familiar with the traditional ‘train track’ metal braces. What you may not be aware of is that the dentist can now use clear plastic ‘aligners’ to straighten your teeth.

Clear aligners are custom made for your teeth. Well know examples are Invisalign, Six Month Smiles and Clearsmile. Worn just like a gum shield, they are thinner and more discreet.
Throughout your treatment, which can be as a short as 6 months, you’ll wear a series of aligners, which over time will gently move your teeth into their new straighter position.
Removable
Clear aligners are removable. You can take your aligner out for drinking, eating and brushing.
You just need to make sure you are wearing them for between 22 and 24 hours a day, teeth quickly begin to move back to their normal ‘crooked’ position.
Discreet
Clear aligners are virtually invisible. They blend in discreetly with your teeth. Friends, family and work colleagues will need to get extremely close to spot them.
Easy to maintain
One of the main disadvantages of fixed metal braces is that they can be difficult to brush around, and if you don’t clean your teeth carefully, you’ll be at risk of tooth decay or decalcification. With clear aligners you can take them out, making brushing and flossing all surfaces of your teeth an easy process.
Comfortable
Clear aligners have a smooth surface and are more comfortable than traditional metal braces.
When a new aligner is fitted it may feel tight. It is this pressure that’s gently squeezing your teeth into the straighter position. Aligners make eating a more comfortable experience enabling you to you eat all your favourite foods.
Precision technology
With aligners the dentist will give you a good estimate as to how long the treatment will take. This is because your treatment is carefully planned using computer aided design and technology.
The dentist will scan your teeth with a hand held probe to map your teeth and jaw. From the scan the computer technology will create the treatment plan and produce the ‘Aligners’.
The dentist will even be able to show you what your ‘Smile’ will look like after the treatment has been completed.
